The cores are sand masses which are prepared with mixture of sand and bonding agent so as to have higher mechanical properties and withstand higher temperatures since they are in contact with much molten metal than the other parts of the mold and placed in the mold to remove the gaps or holes in the parts to be cast.
They are obtained by mixing silica sand with organic and inorganic bonding agents at appropriate rates, giving the desired shape with core boxes, and then setting as a result of automatic chemical reactions in time or bubbling.
The desired properties for cores are as follows: They must be easily shaped, be gas-permeable, resistant to heat, have wet and dry strength, withstand to molten metal pressure, be easily removed after casting and be economical.
Core production is performed by using organic and inorganic bonding agents. Core making methods with Shell, CO2 and alphaset resin are utilized in Dikkan.
